Sticky notes falling like autumn leaves

Posted on February 18, 2015

If you didn’t know already, I’m not necessarily a big fan of online issue trackers. They add features over sticky notes that don’t necessarily add value, and usually omit the most important one:

Sticky notes or index cards fixed to a wall with painters tape fall like leaves in autumn.

You might think: well, that is just a lot of work, sticking them back on to the wall all the time. I don’t. It’s great. If a card we work on today or tomorrow falls down, I’ll pick it up and stick it back. Most of the time it won’t, because we just put it up. If we have more cards into the future, we’ll just collect them in a separate box. If someone really cares about it, she’ll put it back.

Most of the time, we find the box with fallen cards unloved. Every once in a while we go through them for fun, and throw them out.

It would be good if more electronic issue trackers had this feature. What we think of as important now, often is not as important as we think. Going through them later is often wasteful, so it’s better if they disappear out of their own accord.
